In the Disney film Beauty and the Beast many different theories are portrayed to make up the film.

An example of this would be binary opposition, Levi Strauss, this theory is clearly shown through the characters the Beast and Gaston, which is shown through the element mise-en-scene (costume). Stereotypically, the costume of Gaston is shown to be a hero and a prince figure towards Belle. However, the Beast is shown to be a villain in the costume as he looked as if he was part of of the wolves attacking Belle. This clearly shows binary opposition as the character who looks like a villain is actually the one who saves Belle.

Another theory in the film is Bathes theory of CODES. In the clip of the film when the Beast picks up the rose, the editors use different techniques such as shot reverse shot to show the enigma code, to tease the audience in guessing what the rose means to the beast. The camera work, close up, identifies that the Beast knows something will happen if all the petals fall off the rose. Therefore will build tension and leave the viewers asking questions.

Furthermore, character roles (Props) is also a theory which is demonstrated in the film Beauty and the Beast. In the film the protagonist as she is the main character in the film and majority of the scenes are based on trying to get Belle. On the other hand, the antagonist, character which plays the villain is Gaston; as he try to do anything in his power to try win Belle, whether that's in a negative or positive way. Therefore, leading the Beast as being the heroic figure in the film because he saves Belle from not only the wolves but also being hurt by Gaston.

In conclusion, the film shows different narrative theories and how they are used to portray characters in different ways.
